Pembangunan lestari mesti diamalkan bukan sahaja di peringkat rantauan tetapi secara global bagi mewujudkan suatu persekitaran yang bebas daripada pencemaran alam semulajadi.

"Pengurusan aset lestari mencerminkan pembangunan yang mengambil kira kebanyakan komponen berkaitan enam misi membina hijau," kata Setiausaha Kerajaan Terengganu, Dato' Mokhtar Nong, ketika merasmikan kempen Misi Membina Hijau anjuran Puspanita Negeri Terengganu, di Wisma Darul Iman, Kuala Terengganu, hari ini (31 Mei).

Director of Putih Kamariah Architect, Malaysia

Dato' Puteh Kamariah is a Malaysian Professional Architect with a Bachelor's Degree from the Melbourne University, majoring in Building Economics and a Master in Architecture from University College London, also majoring in Building Economics.

While being a Government servant for almost 32 years, with the Public Works Department, Dato' Puteh Kamariah had managed construction projects of numerous hospitals worth more than RM8 billion (approx. USD2.7 billion) in an industry traditionally dominated by men. Ironically it is a fitting role as the view of hospitals as a caring centre for the ill and needy have always been traditionally dominated by women.

A TALK entitled Managing Change Successfully was held recently by Puspanita to prepare its members for changes taking place within the organisation.

About 150 people attended the talk by Ken O'Donnell, a renowned international consultant for Goodyear Tyres, Mercedes-Benz, Sky TV and General Motors from Brazil.

Puspanita Sustainable Built Environment committee chairman Datuk Puteh Kamariah Mohamad said the talk was timely as the organisation wanted its members to accept sustainable development successfully.

“We had organised a Green Building Mission recently, which was officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, to encourage a sustainable site planning, water and energy efficiency, conservation of materials and resources, indoor-environmental quality and innovation in design.”

PUTRAJAYA: If the building you work in is "sick", there is a likelihood that you too could fall ill.

And you could also fall ill even if you are a long distance away from it.

This is called the Sick Building Syndrome, where the building-related illnesses can be caused by chemical and biological agents in the buildings.

Exposure to them can cause pneumonitis, occupational asthma, tuberculosis and hypersensitivity.

Public Works Department health branch director Datuk Puteh Kamariah Mohamad said individuals could also contract multiple chemical sensitivity or environmental illnesses where they could develop sensitivity to even low levels of certain chemicals, due to extended exposure.
